Kelley/Uustal is proud and honored to employ such caring and community
oriented individuals. One such individual is Laz Melendez. In the late
90’s he began pursuing what he feels is a calling to counsel inmates
at Cook County Correction Facility. He now volunteers at Paul Rein Detention
Center of Broward County.
Melendez relies on past experiences and live testimony in order to promote
inner hope for prisoners who are soon to be released. Ex-prisoners often
face challenges that can lead to sudden and overwhelming discouragement
– ultimately, that discouragement can lead them back to incarceration.
Hope is the anecdote for such paralyzing discouragement, Melendez believes.
"I try to encourage them to believe that giving up is not an option,
to use their past challenges as strength for the future, to focus on what
is truly theirs, that which can never be confined – hope and a future,” Melendez explains.
Kelley/Uustal Cares salutes Laz Melendez, for all the ways in which he
cares for his community.
