Roger Eklund was riding his bicycle in the bike lane adjacent to U.S. 1
and Northwest Fifth Street on December 9th, 2016 when he was struck by a negligent driver. He was dragged under the
vehicle for nearly a block before he came loose. Before he had a chance
to try to identify the driver, the black truck that struck him sped away,
turning the accident into a hit-and-run.
Local authorities are still looking to get a positive ID on the suspect.
The most information Mr. Eklund could offer is that it was a black truck.
An eyewitness also claimed to see the truck slow down, likely after realizing
someone had been hit, and then fleeing the scene; no other identifying
information could be gathered, perhaps due to the fact that the hit-and-run
occurred during the night. This incident marks one of many unrelated hit-and-run
crimes within the Fort Lauderdale region.
Our personal injury attorneys at Kelley/Uustal have accepted Mr. Eklund’s
case and hope to help him find both the perpetrator of the hit-and-run
as well as maximized compensation. He has needed to go through several
surgeries since he was struck, and has suffered multiple bone breaks that
have left him bedridden. We are hoping that anyone reading this blog entry
with information about who carried out the hit-and-run will help us locate them.
